About David
David Dimmick is a self-taught Canadian oil painter whose work is inspired by the landscapes, communities, and quiet moments that have shaped his life. Based in Southampton, Ontario, he finds inspiration in Lake Huron, the Bruce Peninsula, Manitoulin Island, and the many places he has come to know across Ontario.
Working primarily in oils, David aims to paint more than a scene. He wants to capture what it feels like to be there through light, atmosphere, and mood, inviting viewers to slow down and appreciate places that hold meaning and memories.
David believes art is one way to celebrate the places we call home and help strengthen the communities connected to them. Through his work, he hopes to encourage others to appreciate the landscapes around them, support small businesses, and notice the beauty in everyday surroundings.
Whether inspired by a landscape, a small business, or an unexpected detail that catches his attention on a walk, David is always looking for the character and story that make a subject worth painting.
David's paintings are held in private collections across Canada and internationally and have been exhibited through galleries and local exhibitions. Through every painting, he hopes to preserve what makes a place worth remembering.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I've always believed that the places around us tell stories.
Whether it's a landscape, a quiet main street, a family-owned business, or an unexpected detail I notice on a walk, I'm drawn to the beauty found in everyday moments. These are the things that inspire me because they remind me that beauty is often found in ordinary things.
I don't paint places simply because they're beautiful. I paint them because they're worth remembering.
My goal isn't simply to paint what I see. It's to capture what it feels like to be there. Light, atmosphere, and mood are just as important to me as the subject itself. I hope each painting invites the viewer to slow down and appreciate a moment that might otherwise pass unnoticed.
The landscapes of Lake Huron, the Bruce Peninsula, Manitoulin Island, and the many places I've come to know across Ontario continue to shape my work because they have shaped me. While landscapes remain at the heart of what I paint, I find inspiration in the things that catch my eye on a walk, in the woods, or in everyday life. Whatever the subject, I'm always looking for the character and story that make it worth painting.

If someone looks at one of my paintings and is reminded of a favourite place, discovers somewhere new, or simply pauses for a moment in an otherwise busy day, then the painting has done exactly what I hoped it would.
